Alleged murder suspect fatally shot in Walmer

It is alleged that on Saturday evening, 29 September 2018 at about 21:15, police were summoned to a murder scene outside a tavern in the location. On arrival, the body of a 32-year-old man was found lying on the ground with a gunshot wound to his neck. Witnesses on the scene, provided information and the detectives, Walmer Crime Prevention Unit members and the K9 unit went in search of the suspect. At about 21:30, the suspect was spotted in between the shacks in area Q in the location. The suspect pointed a firearm at the detective officer who was at very close range to him. The officer succeeded in pushing the suspect’s arm away and in this process a shot went off from the suspect’s firearm causing him to shoot himself in the leg. It is further alleged that as the suspect went for his firearm, he was fatally wounded in his chest. Police have opened a case of murder which will be investigated by IPID.

Next of kin of both deceased in the two murders are yet to be notified.
