Mthatha members continues confiscating illegal firearms

Police in Mthatha are committed in confiscating illegal firearms and ensuring members of the community are and feel safe. Two firearms were confiscated this weekend in separate incidents.

A 24-year-old man was arrested by Mthatha Flying Squad members acting on a tip-off at Nkanini locality Ngolo A/A yesterday, 29 September 2018 at about 14h00. He was found in possession of a 9mm Norinco pistol with 4 rounds of ammunition, 4 sachets of drugs (Tik) and an amount of R1700 in cash.

He will appear before Libode Magistrate’s Court tomorrow, 01 October 2018 facing charges of possession of unlicensed firearm, unlawful possession of ammunition, possession of and dealing in drugs.

In another unrelated incident, Mthatha K9 Unit and Ngqeleni Vispol members followed up on positive information received that has led to the arrest of a 57-year-old man after he was found in possession of a well-marked SAPS 9mm pistol with 3 rounds of ammunition at Buntingville locality in Ngqeleni today, 30 September 2018 at about 02h50. During its circulation it was discovered that the firearm was positively linked to a Lusikisiki 2015 case.

He will appear before Ngqeleni Magistrate’s Court tomorrow, 01 October 2018 facing charges of possession of unlicensed firearm and unlawful possession of ammunition.

The Acting Cluster Commander Brigadier Nomawethu Makonza commended the members’ vigilance and swift action that has led to the recovery of the firearms and the subsequent arrest of suspects.
