Passenger Killed In Collision in Canelands, KZN

One person was killed and three other people were injured following a collision at the Canelands intersection on the R102 in Verulam.

At approximately 18:41 members of Reaction Unit South Africa were called out to the scene by passing motorists reporting the incident. Upon arrival Reaction Officers found that an Opel Corsa bakkie and a Chev Utility bakkie were involved in the collision.

The two occupants of the Opel Corsa bakkie were intoxicated and bottles of alcohol were found in their vehicle (pictures 2 & 3). The driver confirmed that he had consumed three quarts of beer. The passenger suffered extensive injuries and died shortly after arriving at Osindisweni Hospital. The two occupants of the Chev Utility bakkie sustained moderate injuries and were also transported to hospital.

It is alleged that the Chev Utility bakkie was travelling towards Tongaat when the Opel Corsa bakkie which was travelling in the opposite direction turned into Vincent Dickenson Road. The Opel Corsa bakkie allegedly drove through a red robot.

Police are investigating the collision further.
