Police’s speedy response resulted in four hijack suspects arrested minutes after the incident.
This resulted after a black and red Toyota Etios was hijacked by 4 men driving a silver grey GWM Geely H5 vehicle. The 19 year old driver of the Etios stopped at 10:30 at a traffic intersection at the corner of Chelsey Road and Ralo Street, Kwamagxaki. Her vehicle was bumped from behind by the vehicle of the suspects. When she exited her vehicle and attempted to phone relatives to inform them of the accident, she was overpowered by the suspects. They took her phone by force and left with her vehicle.
At about 11:00, members of Bethelsdorp found the Etios abandoned in Ferreira’s Grounds, Kleinskool. SAPS Flying Squad members who were close by also spotted the suspect’s vehicle being driven in Main Road, Kleinskool. After a short car chase the vehicle was forced off the road and the 4 suspects arrested.
Both vehicles were impounded for forensic analysis.
The suspects will be appearing before the Port Elizabeth New Law Courts on 15 October 2018 to face charges of vehicle hijacking.
