Two suspects aged 36 and 46 years are due to appear in the New Hanover Magistrates Court this morning facing charges of illegal possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition. They were arrested over the weekend during operations at Mvoti area.
On Friday night, 12 October 2018, a joint intelligence driven operation was conducted by the Pietermaritzburg Tactical Response Team and Dalton SAPS targeting illegal firearms at Mvoti and Inadi location. During the operation police officers swooped on two homesteads. One suspect was found in possession of a pistol and a rifle as well as ammunition. The second suspect was found at another homestead with three rifles and ammunition.
Police also found a shotgun which could not be linked to anyone for now. Both suspects were arrested and charged for being in possession of illegal firearms and ammunition.
