The 50-year-old Captain was gunned down at approximately 02:30 this morning at Tshiwula Street in New Brighton in the Eastern Cape. The member was stationed at the SAPS Protection and Security Services at King Williams Town but he was deployed to the New Brighton area temporarily. His identity is being withheld until his next of kin has been informed.
The circumstances around and the motive for his killing form part of investigations which have initially indicated that the member was shot multiple times in his head and his service pistol was taken. “I have instructed that the 72 Hour activation plan be implemented”, said General Sitole.
The 72 Hour Activation Plan entails the mobilisation of critical resources including Crime Intelligence, Forensic Experts, The Hawks and Tactical teams to ensure that no crucial evidence and intelligence is lost.
