Three suspects aged between 31 and 37 were arrested in Tembisa this morning, after they were sought in connection with a case of conspiracy to commit a Cash in transit robbery where two suspects were arrested in Brits on Friday by Mpumalanga Crime Intelligence.
A high speed chase ensued on Friday when the police spotted the suspects. The suspects then fired shots at the police and sped off. Mbongiseni Vilakazi (36) was found hiding at a house allegedly belonging to a 36 years old police Sergeant. The house was allegedly used as a hideout for the suspects. The 36 years old police officer who is stationed at Brits police station was also subsequently arrested. A hijacked Mercedes Benz and a rifle were recovered at the said house.
Further tracing and investigations directed the North West Hawks’ Cash in transit task team, assisted by Crime intelligence and the Tactical response team to Tembisa today, where an additional three suspects were arrested. Upon searching one of the suspect’s home, three 9mm pistols were found.
The suspects will appear at the Tembisa Magistrate’s court tomorrow for their first appearance. Meanwhile the suspects arrested in Brits will be appearing at the Brits Magistrate’s court for a formal bail application on 1 November 2018.
