The Provincial Commissioner of the Police in the Northern Cape, Lieutenant General Risimati Peter Shivuri has instructed that the 48-hour Action Plan be activated following a recent spate of attacks on members of the public especially in the Sol Plaatje municipal area.
Unsuspecting victims are threatened, attacked and then robbed of their cell phones, laptops, jewellery and then forced to give the robbers their pin codes where large amounts of cash is withdrawn at ATM’s in the city. The victims are targeted when on the roadside making or answering phone calls.
General Shivuri has established a task team led by the Acting Cluster Commander of Francis Baard, Brigadier Tip Brink that has been immediately activated to investigate these robberies. The 48 hour Action Plan has been activated immediately to track down these perpetrators who have total disregard for human lives and their property as well as the authority of the State. He also stated that he is confident that these perpetrators will be brought to book as we continue to stamp the authority of the State.
The Provincial Commissioner warned criminals that he will not allow them to make a criminal play ground in the Northern Cape province and police members will flush out all criminals.
At the same time, the police are also urging members of the public to be vigilant and alert and not to visit dark and secluded areas especially at night and when alone.
If being followed by unknown and suspicious vehicles, drive immediately to the nearest police station or an area where there are people and alert them. If possible try to memorise the registration number and full description of the vehicle.
Never pick up strangers or hitch hikers and try to decrease your daily withdrawal limit at the bank to prevent large amounts of cash being stolen.
Lieutenant General Shivuri has promised the inhabitants of the Northern Cape that the police will reclaim the space by flushing out the criminals and squeeze crime to zero.
Members of the community are requested to contact Captain Tshawa Browers of the Task Team with any information about the perpetrators at 082 447 1829.
Every information will be treated as confidential.
