Police caution the public about spreading of false information

Following the recent distribution of information on social media, especially WhatsApp messages, where fellow South Africans are being warned that disruptive actions will take place in Ledig, Robega, Pilanesberg, Maule, Phokeng, Phatsima, Rustenburg and surrounding areas from 7 November 2018 to 31 December, the police are calling upon members of the community to refrain from further spreading false, baseless and misleading messages that are circulated through social media platforms. “The police will not hesitate to act against any person who circulates messages with intent to intimidate citizens or incite them to cause violence,” said North West Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Baile Motswenyane. The origin of such messages is subject to investigation

“An urgent appeal is also made to all communities that embark on protests, to do that peacefully and desist from committing crime,” said North West Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Baile Motswenyane. The police will act against any person who contravenes the Law.
