A VW Golf was extensively damaged after it caught alight on Dianthus Road in Brindhaven – Verulam.
Members of Reaction Unit South Africa were called out to the scene by a man reporting the incident. Upon arrival Reaction Officers found the engine compartment of the vehicle engulfed in flames. With the use of a garden hose and buckets of water the fire was extinguished.
The driver of the VW Golf informed Reaction Officers that he was a mechanic and the vehicle belonged to a customer. The vehicle was previously modified and was booked in at his workshop for repairs. During a test drive the mechanic heard an explosion and the car burst into flames.
The vehicle was extensively damaged.
