A good samaritan was attacked in the vicinity of the Verulam Library on Groom Street in the Verulam CBD after he stopped to assist a woman who was being assaulted by three men.
Members of Reaction Unit South Africa were called out to the scene after receiving a call from a member of public reporting shots being fired in the area. Upon arrival the businessman explained that while on his way to his hardware store he noticed a woman being assaulted by three men.
He stopped to assist when the three men attacked him. In an attempt to defend himself he drew his firearm and fired a shot. The suspects managed to disarm him during a scuffle. Onlookers went to the businessman’s rescue and managed to wrestle the firearm away from the suspects who then got into a maroon Toyota Etios with an ND registration and fled the scene. No one was injured.
A search was conducted for the suspects vehicle however no arrests were made.
