The threat of having the power switched off in Oudtshoorn is over. The fire did pass under the power lines, but could not affect the lines. Thanks to the firefighters who were on the ground and successfully contained the fire to avoid lights being switched off in the Greater Oudtshoorn.
A spotter aeroplane was, at some stage, also used to assess the threat of the fire affecting the power lines. We can safely confirm that Eskom will no longer switch off the power for the Greater Oudtshoorn. We would like to thank the firefighters, stakeholders and the entire team of the Garden Route Joint Operational Centre during these difficult times of firefighting.
