An unemployed 50 year old male who collects money from motorist at the Palmview & R102 intersection in Phoenix – KZN was robbed twice within 30 minutes on Tuesday last week.
The man flagged down a member of Reaction Unit South Africa (picture 1) seeking assistance after he spotted the suspects a week later. According to the victim he was robbed by two (2) suspects who produced a large knife at approx 19:00. The suspect robbed him of two packets of groceries given to him by a motorist earlier the same day. The victim informed the Officer that he attempted to flee between traffic on the northbound lane but the suspects managed to overpower him & rob him of his groceries. He then broke free and fled towards Northern Drive – Palmview where he walked in the company of an unknown male for safety reasons.
The man said that approx 20 minutes later the unknown male walked towards a store & he continued to walk in the direction of his home in Phoenix when he was accosted by two other suspects who held a knife to his throat & robbed him of R200 in cash made up of coins he had collected from motorist during the day. He then ran onto the road into the path on oncoming traffic & the suspects fled.
The victim informed Reaction Officers that he collected monies at the robot to support his family after he lost his job when he was involved in a car accident three years ago.
