A South African Police Service (SAPS) Constable was arrested on 20 November 2018 in a joint operation by the Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) and the Johannesburg Metro Police Department (JMPD) for corruption. The suspect is stationed at Douglasdale SAPS.
It is alleged that on 20 November 2018, the complainant went to the JMPD offices to report an extortion by police officers from Douglasdale SAPS, who demanded R3000 from him in return for not impounding his taxi and not arresting his taxi driver for allegedly parking the taxi on the street.
An entrapment operation was arranged in line with the relevant prescripts. During the entrapment operation, a Constable was arrested for corruption and possession of unlicensed ammunition. An accomplice, who is a Sergeant based at Douglasdale SAPS, managed to escape. A docket of escaping from custody has been registered.
The suspect will appear at the Randburg Magistrates Court on 22 November 2018 on a charge of corruption.
