Tshwane Metro Police members in Sinoville received a tip-off at around 07:00 on Friday morning about cable theft in progress at the R566 and R101 north of Pretoria, and they rushed to the scene.
When the three suspects at the scene noticed the officers, they ran towards the river and disappeared into the nearby squatter camp.
The officers managed to recover the stolen cables, the value of which is yet to be determined.
Cable theft is a huge problem in the City and a major contributor to electricity outages in Tshwane.
The Tshwane Metro Police will continue to work hard to fight cable theft in Tshwane.
