Drug traffickers in the Port Elizabeth area was dealt a serious blow last night, 10 January 2019, when police raided a house in Cranwell Street in Humewood extension in Port Elizabeth.
Acting on a ‘tip-off at about 16:00, SAPS Humewood members swooped in on the house. The entire house including the garage and a Wendy house was searched. Sixteen bags of mandrax tablets (total 13 347 individual tablets), cash to the amount of R103 450 and a cellphone were seized. It is alleged that the drugs arrived from Khayalitsha yesterday morning.
Five suspects (father, mother and 3 children), aged between 20 and 58 years old were arrested and detained on a charge of dealing in drugs. They will appear in the Port Elizabeth magistrates’ court on Monday, 14 January 2019.
The Provincial Commissioner, Lt Gen Liziwe Ntshinga has warned drug traffickers that the SAPS will stop at nothing in crippling their lucrative trade. ‘Drug related crimes have no boundaries and there is no higher calling than defeating drug traffickers that threaten the rule of law and undermine the wellbeing and welfare of our people. I commend the police officers on the sterling arrests and had it not been for their excellent relationship with the community, these criminals would still be going about pursuing their illegal trade,’ added Lt Gen Ntshinga.
