Three injured after vehicle burst into flames in Verulam

Three people sustained moderate burns after the vehicle they were travelling in burst into flames on Inanda Road in Verulam.

At approximately 18:40 members of Reaction Unit South Africa were called out to the scene by passing motorists requesting medical assistance for the injured. Upon arrival an Isuzu bakkie was found engulfed in flames.

It was established that the bakkie was travelling towards Trenance Park when the engine compartment suddenly burst into flames. Two men and a woman who were seated at the front of the vehicle sustained moderate burns to their face and arms as the driver brought the vehicle to a stop.

A second female who was seated at the back of the bakkie was also injured after she jumped out of the moving vehicle. The injured were stabilised on scene by Medics before being transported to Osindisweni Hospital by ambulance.

The Ethekwini Fire & Rescue Services were called to the scene and upon arrival extinguished the blaze. The bakkie was extensively damaged in the fire.

Circumstances surrounding the cause of the fire is yet to be established.
