A Ford Bantam bakkie was completely destroyed after it burst into flames on the north bound lane of the R102 between the Palmview and Ottawa intersection today (Tuesday).
At approximately 08:52 the RUSA Operations Centre received multiple calls from the public reporting the incident. Upon arrival Reaction Officers found the vehicle completely engulfed in flames. Fireman extinguished the blaze however the vehicle was completely destroyed.
According to the driver he and two of his colleagues were on their way to King Shaka International Airport when they noticed smoke emanating from the engine compartment of the vehicle. As the driver brought the bakkie to a stop it burst into flames. The occupants of the bakkie were not injured.
Circumstances surrounding the fire is unknown at this stage.
