Police Divers from Durban Search and Rescue along with Metro Police Search and Rescue were called out to conduct a dive operation to search for an exhibit in the Umlazi River.
A knife, believed to have been used in a double murder over the weekend in the Lamontville Area, was thrown into the river from the overhead footbridge as the suspect fled. The 25-year-old suspect pointed out the area alongside Gwala street where the knife was disposed of. Divers battled for more than 5 hours to search the river due to extremely thick vegetation that obstructed their efforts. The knife was recovered at a depth of 6m. The exhibit was handed over to the Investigating Officer on scene.
