A man accused of robbing a scholar of his cellphone was severely assaulted by mob in the Verulam CBD yesterday (Monday).
Reaction Officers were called out to Madressa Lane by a member of the public after the suspect ran into his business and locked himself in the toilet. A mob gathered outside the salon and demanded that the suspect be handed over to them.
Upon arrival RUSA Members removed the injured man from the toilet. It was established that he and an accomplice robbed a scholar of his cellphone. The incident was witnessed by the public who chased the two suspects and managed to apprehend one of them. They assaulted the suspect with sticks before he broke free and ran into the salon where he locked himself in the toilet. The second suspect was not apprehended and the victim’s cellphone was not recovered.
The suspect was handed over to Police.
