Suspect arrested and firearm recovered in Phoenix

A suspect was arrested after he was found in possession of a firearm which did not belong to him in Phoenix – KZN.

Reaction Unit South Africa Phoenix Operations Centre received a call from a hardware business reporting a group of suspicious men loitering outside the store. The caller confirmed that one person was in possession of a firearm which was visible under his shirt.

Reaction Officers were dispatched to the business and upon arrival noticed the group of men fleeing towards a Toyota Quantum. RUSA Officers pursued them and apprehended two individuals. One of the men threw the firearm under a seat in the taxi.

While interviewing the suspect he claimed to be the son of a taxi boss. He initially claimed that the firearm belonged to his father but later changed his version of events claiming that the firearm belonged to the driver of the taxi. Both versions could not be verified on scene.

The suspect was placed under arrest and handed over to the Phoenix SAPS for further investigation.
