There has been a tragic drowning incident on the Umkomazi river

Reports from the scene are that a mother was crossing the river while carrying her girls aged 14 months old and another aged 3years old, when she reported slipped in the water.
She called for assistance and community members, inculding a minibus driver and sisters from the near by Banyeni clinic came to thier assistance.

They were taken to the nearby Banyeni clinic.

Paramedics from KZN EMS , rescuers from Metro police and SAPS and fire fighters from Umkhomaas responded to the scene.

The children were examined at the clinic sadly the 14 month old was found to be deceased. The 3year old was treated at the clinic by the facilities medical staff and paramedics before being airlifted to hospital by the department of health’s air ambulance.
