Two people hospitalized after being shot outside a tavern in Verulam

Two people were hospitalized after they were shot while seated in a vehicle outside a tavern in the Chubbies Garage area in Verulam last night (Sunday).

At approximately 19:40 members of Reaction Unit South Africa arrived at the scene and established that the victims were seated in a Toyota Corolla when two unknown men approached the vehicle and fired a volley of shots at them. The gunmen then got into a white bakkie which sped of from the scene.

One of the victims was treated for a gun shot wound to his face while the second victim sustained gunshot wounds to his back and his right arm. Both men were treated on scene and transported to hospital in a stable condition. Several spent 9mm cartridges were recovered at the scene.

The motive for the shooting has not been established at this stage.
