Speedy arrest for possession of hijacked vehicle and firearm in Mitchell’s Plain

On Tuesday, 16 April 2019 at about 02:25, Lentegeur SAPS members were conducting crime prevention duties, when they received a complaint from radio control about a vehicle that was hijacked in Manenberg.

The members saw a white Toyota Quantum driving in Highlands drive which fitted the description of the stolen vehicle. When the police officers tried to stop the vehicle, the driver sped off and the police gave chase. They followed the vehicle into Varing Street, Lentegeur where the driver collided with another vehicle and into a wall.

SAPS Members apprehended the suspect, searched him and found a firearm, without serial number including six 9mm rounds in his possession.

A 20-year-old suspect was arrested and faces charges of possession of stolen vehicle, possession of prohibited firearm as well as unlawful possession of ammunition.

He will appear in court once charged. The vehicle was impounded by SAPS.
