Free State: Swift Police action foils robbery plan, trio arrested

Sasolburg detectives working together with Sasolburg Public Order policing Unit, acted on information received and conducted an intelligence driven operation in Deneysville at about 14:00 this afternoon.

The information led them to Refengkgotso where it was alleged that a group of suspects were busy plotting to commit an armed robbery tonight.

The suspects were found at a mechanic’s workshop and officials conducted their search including all vehicles found in the yard. In one bakkie, they found two firearms, a norinco with one empty magazine and 22 Magnum with no rounds. The mechanic and his helpers were arrested at the scene and they will be charged with possession of unlicensed firearms.

The three suspects aged 36, 26 and 29 will appear in the Sasolburg.
