Fatal rollover crash on the Meadows gravel road about 30km outside Bloemfontein

The driver of this vehicle sustained serious injuries and his female passenger was killed after it left the road and overturned several times on the Meadows gravel road about 30km outside Bloemfontein late yesterday evening. The exact time of the accident is unknown and the vehicle was found off the road by another vehicle passing just before midnight. On arrival of emergency services both victims were found lying in the field some distance from the vehicle, suggesting that both were ejected during the collision.

The driver was treated for his injuries and hypothermia on scene before he was transported to Bloemfontein Medi-Clinic for further care. The passenger was also assessed and found to have sadly succumbed to her injuries and was declared dead on the scene. A thorough search was then conducted in the area of the incident as it could not be determined how many people were in the vehicle at the time of the accident. No further victims were found. The SAPS has opened an investigation into the accident as well as the death of the deceased victim.
