Four suspects arrested and a number of firearms and ammunition recovered

The collaborative efforts by members of the South African Police Service in Limpopo, in dealing with incidents of violent and serious crimes, keep producing meaningful results. This after four suspects were nabbed and a total of four (04) firearms recovered at different locations over the weekend. The suspects were arrested for crimes ranging from murder, possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition to possession of suspected stolen properties.

Two of the suspects were arrested in Sebayeng under Mankweng Cluster and one in Tzaneen. The fourth suspect was arrested at the Beitbridge border post under Musina policing precinct.

In the Tzaneen Cluster, a 25-year-old woman was arrested in the early hours of yesterday, 28 September 2019, after she was found in possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition and a suspected stolen motor vehicle. The members of Tzaneen Crime Intelligence and Tracking Team Unit, promptly followed information about the existence of a stolen motor vehicle at Thabina Village.

These Police Units spotted the said vehicle at the suspect’s house and she was immediately arrested. Police conducted their investigations inside the house and recovered the following firearms and other items:

* Two (02) rifles

* 111 R5 live ammunition

*0ne (01)9mm live ammunition.

*Two (02) balaclavas.

*One (01) Security bullet vest.

* Two (02) rifle magazines.

* One motor vehicle.

The Preliminary investigations revealed that the vehicle was reported stolen at Saps Tubatse earlier this month.

The suspect will soon appear before the Tzaneen Magistrate’s Court on charges of possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition and possession of suspected stolen properties

Meanwhile the Police in Sebayeng outside Mankweng, arrested two suspects aged 21 and 24, in the early hours of yesterday, 28 September 2019, shortly after the brutal murder of a 23 year old man. The deceased was allegedly coming from a local tavern at about 04h00, when he was accosted by two men who demanded cash. During the process, one of the suspects produced a firearm and shot him. The Police and the medical emergency services were summoned to the scene. The victim, Thabiso Seabi later succumbed to his injuries.

The Visible Policing members jointly with the Detectives immediately followed the tracks of these suspects until they were nabbed around this area. The Police recovered a 9mm pistol with eight (08) rounds of ammunition, believed to be the murder weapon. Preliminary investigations revealed that the firearm belonged to a Police officer and was reported stolen at Saps Maake.

The suspects were charged with murder and will appear in Mankweng Magistrate’s Court soon.

The other arrest was made on Saturday 28 September 2019, at the Beitbridge border post when members performing their routine duties searched a 33 year old man entering the country. He was found in possession of an unlicensed firearm, a 9mm pistol with 14 live ammunition. The suspect is expected to appear in Musina Magistrate’s Court soon on charges of possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition.

The origin of the recovered items will still be determined by the ongoing police investigations.

The Provincial Commissioner of Limpopo Lieutenant General Nneke Ledwaba has hailed the efforts of the members involved for ridding this province of illegal firearms. “The removal of firearms from the hands of criminals will have a significant impact on crimes such as murder, CITs and aggravated robberies”, concluded General Ledwaba.

All recovered firearms will be subjected to ballistic investigations to determine their possible involvement in violent crimes.

Police investigations are still continuing.
