For too long, the expansion of public transport and infrastructure for non–motorized transport, such as by bicycle or on foot, was neglected in cities. Today, pedestrians remain the most vulnerable of all road users with a Road Traffic Management Corporation’s study showing that 38% of total road fatalities are pedestrians. As part of its Transport Month activities for October, the South African Road Federation is hosting an important discussion on where South Africa is at and how it is faring when it comes to vulnerable and non-motorised transport users.
The keynote address will be by the MEC for Roads and Transport, Jacob Mamabolo, who will discuss the role of transport in Gauteng’s economy.
Members of the media are invited to attend.
