Three suspects arrested for possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition, and possession of hijacked vehicle by Maitland Flying squad

WESTERN CAPE – In order to prevent and combat crime that may threaten the safety and security of the community at large, Maitland Flying Squad members acted swiftly whilst busy with crime prevention patrols in the Khayelitsha area today, Thursday, 2019-10-24.

On Thursday 2019-10-24, members of Maitland Flying Squad spotted a vehicle in Khayelitsha that was reportedly hijacked in Mitchells Plain.

The vehicle was stopped and searched and a 9mm Norinco pistol with the serial number filed off, one magazine and five 9mm rounds was found inside the vehicle.

Three suspects, aged 18, 19 and 23, were arrested and detained on charges of possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition and the possession of a hijacked vehicle.
They are due to appear in the Khayelitsha Magistrates Court on Monday, 2019-10-28 on the mentioned charges.
