WESTERN CAPE – The swift reaction of Harare police members, after a couple was kidnapped at gunpoint, landed two suspects behind bars. Last night, at around 19:30, two suspects kidnapped a couple in Zwelitsha, Harare and forced them at gunpoint to make a cash withdrawal at an ATM.
The suspects fled and the matter was reported to police who then conducted a search in the area. This search led to the arrest of the suspects aged 23 and 32 who were found in possession of an unlicensed 9mm pistol and 15 rounds of ammunition. Once charged, the suspects will make a court appearance in Khayelitsha.
In an unrelated incident, a 28-year-old suspect was arrested during the early hours of this morning in Siyaya Avenue in Khayelitsha for the possession of an unlicensed 9mm firearm. Members on patrol spotted two suspects under suspicious circumstances and approached them. One of the suspects managed to evade arrest and he is being sought. His accomplice is due to make a court appearance in Khayelitsha once he has been charged.
