NORTHERN CAPE – The Provincial SAPS Firearms, Liquor and Second Hand Goods unit (FLASH), Transnet and De Aar SAPS Designated Second Hand Goods Office is currently busy with multi-disciplinary operation in De Aar.
The sting operation started at 08:00 this morning, 30 October 2019, and the team did compliance visits to random scrap metal dealers. One male (34) and one female (55) scrap metal businesses owners were arrested under the criminal matters amendment act 18 of 2015 for essential infrastructure.
Police confiscated goods allegedly belonging to Transnet, such as railway tracks, nuts, bolts and other equipment. The estimated value of the confiscated goods is about R200 000. The investigation continues.
