A 16-year-old female student attempted suicide this morning (Thursday) after learning that she had failed her final examination.
Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) received a call at approx 08:45 from the mother who was at her place of employment. She informed the Operations Center that her daughter was at home in Mt View – Verulam with two other minor children and had attempted to suicide by taking a large quantity of tablets.
Paramedics were immediately despatched to the home and found the female unresponsive on a bed. A suicide note and three types of tablets were found beside her. She was rapidly transported to a local hospital.
According to her family, the female is a grade 10 student at a high school in Brindhaven – Verulam. She received her year-end report and found that she had failed.
She then attempted to end her life when her parents left for work.
