In an effort to deal with drug peddling, four suspects between the ages of 27 and 44 are expected to appear in the Potchefstroom Magistrate Court on Monday, 9 December 2019, for possession of drugs.
The suspects’ court appearance stems from their apprehension by Potchefstroom K9 Unit members on Friday, 06 December 2019. The suspects were arrested outside unoccupied house in Potchefstroom after they attempted to run away. That was after the police made a follow-up on a tip-off received from members of the community. During the arrest, drugs such as kat, tik, mandrax and heroine with an estimated street value of R600 000.00 were found inside a plastic bag at the suspects’ residence.
Preliminary investigations revealed that two of the three suspects, were previously arrested for dealing and possession of drugs. However, they were acquitted.
