KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Transport, Community Safety and Liaison announced that a multi-disciplinary task team comprising of officials from the Department of Transport, the South African National Taxi Council and police will be set up to address taxi violence in the Mpumalanga and District Taxi Association.
MEC Ntuli engaged with members of the association during a meeting in Hammarsdale in order to tackle the ongoing taxi violence within the association.
The association has been experiencing internal violence which led to the killing of the majority of its leadership.
The Department of Transport will continue to play its regulatory role and at all times monitor the developments within the association to ensure that the law is complied with. This will include ensuring that law enforcement is deployed as it may become necessary in the period of the reconstitution of the association’s leadership.
