DURBAN – The two men were well-known for having style and living life but no one knew where they get the money to afford the lifestyle they were living. Yesterday the questions that had been bothering a lot of people within the community were finally answered when the police arrested the suspects for robbery, burglaries and for possession of the stolen property.
Yesterday Umkomaas Vispol police officers together with a security company followed up on information about the men suspected to be involved in a robbery. The team progressed onto two premises in Umlazi and Lamontville where the suspects were keeping the stolen goods. A search was conducted in both premises and stolen property including children’s boots, men’s jackets, flat-screen TV, sound system, clothing, PSP box, two boxes of ARV tablets and other stolen property was recovered. The suspects were requested to produce documents to prove the goods belong to them but failed and were placed under arrest. The suspects aged between 27 and 36 will appear in the Durban Magistrates’ Court tomorrow.
In Isipingo on 04 February 2020 at 06:00, a 46-year-old truck driver was driving along Avenue East, Isipingo beach when he was allegedly accosted by a group of armed men. The suspects instructed the driver to move to a passenger seat, and loaded the boxes of clothing in their Quantum and drove off. A case of robbery was opened at Isipingo police station for investigation.
It is alleged on 16 January 2020 at 16:00, a 36-year-old woman left her place of residence at Oak Avenue in Wyebank and went to work. On her return, she noticed that the front door which was locked was damaged and her belongings such as TV sets, amplifiers and speakers were stolen. A case burglary was opened at Pinetown SAPS. The suspects were also linked to another Maydon Wharf case where a vehicle with boxes of ARV’s was broken into.
The KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Khombinkosi Jula commended the police officers for arresting the suspects and the recovery of the stolen goods. “We urge the community to not be fearful and to report any suspicious acts within their community. Their identity will always be protected. We can only fight crime if we work together as a team,” he said.
