A vigilant response by SAPS members to remove the presence of crime generators in communities achieved successful outcomes during operations conducted in Khayelitsha.
On Thursday 05 March 2020 at about 14:30, members of the Harare policing precinct conducted a liquor operation in the Enkanini informal settlement. Members were in the area when they noticed people busy offloading liquor from a light delivery vehicle. Upon further enquiries, they established that it was an illegal shebeen operating and they confiscated the liquor. While members were confiscating the items, they recovered an illegal firearm, (a revolver pistol) and several rounds of ammunition hidden between the liquor crates.
Three suspects, aged between 32 and 49 were subsequently arrested on charges of dealing in liquor without a licence and unlicensed possession of a firearm and ammunition. They are expected to appear in the Khayelitsha Magistrate’s Court on Monday 09 March 2020.
Meanwhile, on Wednesday 04 March 2020, members attached to the Khayelitsha Tactical Response Team (TRT) were conducting crime prevention duties when they acted on information received about the presence of drugs at a residential premises in Mandela Park, Khayelitsha. Upon arrival at the mentioned address, members recovered 642 Mandrax tablets. A 35-year-old suspect was arrested on a charge of possession of Mandrax. He appeared in the Khayelitsha Magistrates Court on mentioned charge.
