NORTHERN CAPE – A 33-year-old suspect is expected to appear at the Prieska Magistrate’s Court today, 20 April 2020 for allegedly trafficking a female victim from Gauteng to the Northern Cape.
It is alleged that during March 2020, the suspect recruited the 22-year-old victim under the false pretence that she is going to get a job in Prieska. On arrival, she was allegedly locked up at a house, raped and was continually assaulted by the perpetrator.
On Saturday the Hawks’ Serious Organised Crime Investigation conducted an operation and rescued the victim who is currently being kept at a place of safety. The suspect was also detained and has been charged for contravening the Trafficking in Persons Act. Investigations are still ongoing.
