A 29 year old suspect was apprehended by members of Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) after he and accomplice stole a cellphone on Wick Street in the Verulam CBD today (Tuesday).
At approximately 16:05 RUSA Members were flagged down by a man stating that one of the suspects who had stolen his cellphone a few hours earlier was seen in the vicinity. The victim pointed out the suspect who was casually walking down Wick Street. When approached he fled. A chase ensued and the suspect was apprehended on Todd Street.
According to the victim he was seated in his vehicle at approximately 11:00 today when the suspect approached him from the passenger side under the pretext of selling Avocado Pears. When the driver declined to purchase from him he allegedly signalled to a second suspect who was standing across the road and continued distracting the victim. The second suspect grabbed the driver’s cellphone and both men fled on foot. The victim conducted his own search for the two and spotted one of the suspects several hours later.
The suspect was handed over to the Verulam SAPS for further investigation.
