Two male suspects aged 28 and 21 are expected to appear before the Johannesburg Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday, 20 May 2020 for possession of suspected stolen property worth approximately R4 million.
It is alleged that a logistics’ truck with Cargo from OR Tambo International Airport en route to Kempton Park was hijacked last Saturday. The truck driver was allegedly threatened and forced off the road by armed suspects who bundled him into a bakkie and later dumped him in Tembisa unharmed.
An intelligence-driven operation was promptly conducted by the Hawks’ Serious Organised Crime Investigation and the Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department. The suspects were consequently traced and apprehended at a house in Ormonde on Monday, 18 May 2020. Cellphones and laptops suspected to have been stolen were seized.
Further investigation led the team to a private storage facility in Pretoria North where other valuables which included thermometers, stoves, fridges, and sweets were recovered. Investigation on this case continues.
