At 6:30 PM yesterday evening, Cape Medical Response received numerous phone calls from members of the public living in Ranger Road off Quarry Road in Fish Hoek about a serious motor vehicle accident. The callers reported that there were two people with serious injuries and that the vehicle had gone through the fence of someone’s property.
CMR dispatched two response vehicles and an ambulance. When we arrived on the scene, we found two patients still in the vehicle, one female adult in the front passenger seat with medium injuries. The other patient, an adult male in the driver seat had severe injuries, was in a critical state, and was trapped in the vehicle.
The vehicle had to be stabilised before CMR medics could access the patients as it was unstable and hanging on a palisade fence on private property. The adult female patient was extricated out of the passenger door. Using the Jaws of Life, efforts turned to free the male patient. It took well over an hour to cut him free of the wreckage. Once freed, the adult male patient was transported to a Cape Town hospital in a critical condition.
Thank you for the services on the scene: Fish Hoek Fire & Rescue, Metro Rescue, SAPS, and towing services.
