PORT ELIZABETH – Anti-Gang Unit members patrolling the hot spot areas in Missionvale arrested an 18-year-old teenager and recovered two firearms yesterday afternoon, 10 June 2020.
It is alleged that at about 15:00, AGU members were patrolling in Missionvale looking for suspects involved in a shooting incident that occurred earlier in the day. As the two members approached Phoenix Street, they spotted a male sitting at the corners of Phoenix and Alcamino Streets. When he saw the police vehicle, he got up and started running. The members chased after him on foot. As he ran he threw two firearms in a yard.
He was apprehended and the firearms recovered. Both firearms will be sent to ballistics for analysis.
The suspect is detained on charges of illegal possession of firearms and illegal possession of ammunition. He is expected to appear in court soon.
