Two brothers aged five and seven fled their residence in Parkgate, Verulam after they were allegedly assaulted by their grandad earlier today.
At approximately 13:53 a resident of Regent Place in Parkgate contacted Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) for assistance after both boys arrived at her residence requesting a place to spend the night.
On arrival of RUSA Members, the older child explained that his younger brother had stolen R100 from their grandfather. When he found out he began assaulting the child. The seven-year-old then intervened and fled the residence with his brother. The older child had an abrasion to his left cheek which he claimed was from the assault. The children also complained that their grandfather forced them and their four sisters to beg for money and collect the old newspapers from residents for recycling.
The boys could not provide an address neither did they know their way back home. Their mother is employed as a domestic worker in Parkgate and their dad is a DVD salesman. They did not have any contact numbers for their parents. The two attend Parkgate Primary and are in Grade R & Grade 1.
SAPS were called to the scene and are investigating further.
