A businessman was robbed by four suspects as he was about to get into his vehicle in the parking lot of Standard Bank situated on the corner of Gopalall Hurbans Road and High Street in Tongaat.
A passerby stopped at the Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) Tongaat Operations Center and reported the incident. All available Reaction Officers were dispatched to the scene and on arrival met with the victim.
He explained that after withdrawing monies from the bank he was making his way to his Toyota Corolla when he was accosted by two men. The suspects produced firearms and robbed him of the cash. The gunmen got into an awaiting red VW Golf 6 GTi with an ND registration and sped off. There were a further two suspects in the getaway vehicle.
According to a car guard, one of the suspects was seen seated in the car park reading a newspaper while his three accomplices remained in the getaway vehicle across the road. When the victim exited the bank the suspect with the newspaper and a passenger from the VW Golf GTi approached and robbed him.
Reaction Officers and the Tongaat SAPS conducted an extensive search for the robbers however no arrests were made.
