The Hawks’ Serious Organised Crime Investigation, Crime Intelligence as well as officials from the Department of Forestry Fisheries and Environmental Affairs (DFFE) in Western Cape conducted an intelligence driven operation which uncovered an illegal abalone processing facility in Grabouw worth over R5.4 million on the 25 June 2020.
A search and seizure at the premises situated on Oudebrug Street, uncovered freshly cooked and dried abalone as well as processing equipment. All these were seized for further investigation.
Consequently, two suspects aged between 59 and 52 were arrested and are due appear at the Grabouw Magistrates Court on Monday, 29 June 2020.
