Ongoing efforts to rid Manenberg communities of unlicensed firearms and ammunition produced a successful outcome when members arrested two suspects who were found with unlicensed firearms and ammunition in their possession.
Yesterday at around 11:45, members were conducting crime prevention duties in identified hot spot areas where gang activity is most prevalent, when they noticed two suspicious persons sitting inside a parked vehicle in Hilda Court, Manenberg. They approached the vehicle and instructed the occupants to get out. The members searched them and discovered one of them carrying a bag containing a 6.35 mm pistol. The suspect, a 46-year-old male, was subsequently arrested for the possession of an unlicensed firearm and is expected to appear in the Athlone Magistrates’ Court soon.
In a separate incident, members attached to Manenberg SAPS Crime Prevention Unit were responding to sporadic shooting yesterday at around 14:15 in Lettie Court, Manenberg when they noticed a suspicious person attempting to hide something. Information was received about the suspect who was responsible for the shooting. Members approached and searched him and found a 7.64 pistol with several rounds of ammunition in his possession. The suspect, a 21-year-old male, was arrested for the possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition and is expected to appear in the Athlone Magistrates Court soon.
