KING WILLIAM’S TOWN – Swift response by Cofimvaba Detectives led to the arrest of the 35-year-old suspect at Woodhouse, Cofimvaba on 18 July 2020 at about 17:00.
The arrest followed the discovery of the body of a 79-year-old woman at her home in Woodhouse earlier. It is alleged that the neighbour who went to the old woman’s homemade the discovery. The neighbour immediately called the police. A Task Team, led by Captain Litha Mfundisi started following up the leads and with the assistance of the community tracked the suspect in the area.
The 35-year-old suspect was arrested and will appear in Cofimvaba Magistrate Court on Monday 20 July 2020 on a charge of murder.
Eastern Cape Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Liziwe Ntshinga commended the swift response by the police and also thanked the community for their assistance. “Crimes against women and children remain the priority of the police. The detectives will oppose bail in this case. The assistance of the community is applauded”, she said.
