The charred, maggot-infested remains of an unidentified man were discovered in a burnt-out informal dwelling on Gopalall Hurbans Road opposite Mithangar in Tongaat this morning (Friday).
A passerby who made the discovery contacted Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) and reported his findings. On arrival, the car wash employee informed Reaction Officers that he was taking a short cut to breaking sugar cane when he made the discovery.
He led Officers to the scene which was between a sugar cane plantation and a small vegetable farm. The deceased was found in a prone position. He had been burnt beyond recognition.
Circumstances leading up to the fire are unclear at this stage however Police are investigating further.
