Anti-Gang Unit confiscates firearms, ammunition, drugs and arrests four in Lentegeur

CAPE TOWN – Members of the Anti-Gang Unit (AGU) armed with much-needed information embarked on an operation in Lentegeur in Mitchell’s Plain on Thursday evening and seized three firearms, rounds of ammunition and drugs. Four suspects believed to be linked to local gangs in the area were subsequently arrested for illegal possession of firearms, ammunition, and dealing in drugs.

The Unit’s C Relief shift descended on a house on Thursday evening at 20:30 in Varing Street where they seized the following:

* 1X Black She 85 pistol

* 1X Black Colt .45 pistol

* 1X Black Colt. 45 pistol

* 1 X holster

* 4X magazines

* An assortment of rounds of ammunition

* Substantial quantities of Crystal Meth (Tik)

Preliminary investigations reveal the firearms were stolen in Claremont and Beacon Bay in East London.

The arrested suspects comprise of a 58-year-old man, a 49-year-old woman, and two teenagers. They are expected to appear in court on Monday in Mitchell’s Plain.

Western Cape SAPS management has commended the efforts of the members who continuously ensure that communities are safer by removing the generators of serious violent crimes.
