WESTERN CAPE – Police in the province remain committed to rid the communities of unlicensed firearms and ammunition. In the early house of this morning (2020-08-21) members from the Anti-Gang Unit, followed up on information about firearms that are kept at two houses in Steenberg. Upon their arrival at the address, police searched two premises and found two unlicensed firearms and 38 rounds of ammunition. Two suspects affiliated to the Flakka gang were arrested.
Meanwhile, last night (2020-08-20) at about 21:30 AGU members followed up on information after a shooting incident that was reported in Eltister road, Lavender Hill at 17:30 where two people were shot. A 31-year-old man was fatally wounded while a 48-year-old man was wounded. Cases of murder and attempted murder were opened for investigation. Police pounced on an address in Shepard Court, Lavender Hill where a search was conducted. Two 9mm pistols with 36 rounds of ammunition and dagga were confiscated. Two suspects were arrested for possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition and possession of dagga.
All four arrested suspects aged between 28 and 40 are expected to appear in the Wynberg Magistrates’ Court on Monday, 2020-08-24.
The Western Cape provincial commissioner, Lieutenant General Yolisa Matakata commended the members for ensuring that perpetrators are brought to book and unlicensed firearms and ammunition are removed from the communities.
