WESTERN CAPE – Kraaifontein SAPS members arrested nine suspects between the ages of 17 and 34 on attempted murder and possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition charges on Sunday, 23 August 2020.
Crime prevention members received information from the public that some persons were on their way to break into homes in Belmont Park, Kraaifontein. The members followed up the information and saw three males, aged 24, 26 and 30 with two women, aged 18 and 25 walking on 6th Avenue, Belmont Parks 3:45 on Sunday morning. When they stopped to interview and search the group, someone dropped a .38 special firearm with the serial number filed off. All five suspects were subsequently arrested.
In a separate incident a 17-year-old male was arrested in La Boheme street, Scottsdene on Sunday, 23 August 2020 at 18:00 by members, attached to the Kraaifontein SAPS gang team, which focuses on combatting, preventing and investigating gang violence within the Kraaifontein precinct after they received information of gang members on their way to Rusticana street, Scottsdene with a firearm. Members tracked down the group and searched them, discovering a Zip gun, containing one round in the possession of the youth. He was detained at Kraaifontein SAPS on possession of a prohibited firearm and ammunition charges.
Two known gang members aged 21 and 27 were traced and arrested during tracing operations also on Sunday for attempted murder. They fired several shots at community members in Caveleria Avenue, Scottsdene at around 12:00 on the mentioned date. No one was injured during the shooting. Meanwhile, a 34-year-old male was also traced and arrested by Kraaifontein police on Sunday after he shot and wounded a 37-year-old victim. The victim was shot three times in the back while riding his bicycle in Park Avenue at 20:55.
All suspects will appear in the Blue Downs Regional court once they are charged.
